Deanery Garden – Sonning on Thames Berkshire

This three acre listed Jekyll Garden was one of my earliest contracts – where I cut my professional teeth! So you can imagine my delight when I was contacted by the new ‘A list celebratory’ owner some 15 years later who wanted it restored to how he remembered it when I was there originally.

I was commissioned to design and restore this significant historical Lutyens/Jekyll garden in Sonning on Thames in Berkshire including sourcing original drawings from 1901 when the house was designed for Edward Hudson – the then proprietor of Country Life Magazine and to research to find original species of plants that were used in Jekyll’s original designs.

As well as care and restoration of the rose gardens, herbaceous boarders and pleaching of the existing limes I restored the ecologically old orchard and wild garden – home to millions of spring bulbs.
